Discover Duluth and Grand Marais!
From Minneapolis, Duluth is located approximately 2.5 hours north. A quick and easy drive, once you arrive on the shores of Lake Superior, you will truly feel as though you are much farther from the metropolitan area than you really are!
Hiking, bicycling, exploring, relaxing...all options are available when you visit Duluth. Each of the four seasons has something truly unique to offer and trust us: you won't be disappointed!
Restaurants are plentiful in Duluth, if you can sort out a way to have two lunches and two dinners - please let us know! Our biggest problem is fitting in all of the meals we want to enjoy!
A few of our favorite eating spots in Duluth:
Northern Waters Smokehaus: located in one of the iconic buildings in Canal Park, this small yet mighty location will provide mouthwatering scents the moment you turn down the hallway leading to their door. The crew smokes all of their own meats and we have yet to find a selection that has not literally blown us out of the water with the flavor and deliciousness! There is very limited seating, so plan to pick up and have a picnic either in Canal Park or tuck your lunch in a cooler and head up the north shore. You won't be disappointed!
Pickwick Restaurant & Pub: as a Duluth landmark since 1914, the Pickwick is a tried and true stop for a fantastic meal in an atmosphere where you simply wish the walls could talk. Whatever you decide on for your meal, don't forget an order of onion rings to share with your friends and family! The rings are as large as a donut and beyond delicious!
The PortLand Malt Shoppe: when you see the lines, you will know you've found the spot for the best ice cream in Duluth! Grab your tasty treat and watch the ships and sailboats in the harbor as you sip your malt or float, or enjoy a hand dipped cone!
Little Angies Cantina and Grill: the Tex-Mex flavor and feel found at Angie's provides a fun stop for great margarita's and ice cold beer that simply put, are made to wash down an afternoon snack of chips and salsa or dinner with a kick!
New Scenic Cafe: located on the scenic drive along the north shore approximately 10 minutes outside of Duluth between Two Harbors and Duluth, plan a stop for lunch or dinner when you are in the area. Since opening in 1999, the New Scenic Cafe has continued to delight visitors with it's fresh and unique menu's and cozy surroundings. Menu's change with the seasons, so prepare to be delighted with the innovative and delicious offerings you will find regardless the time of the year you find yourself visiting.
Ready to drive a bit farther? Continue on to Grand Marais, a lovely little town (also on the Shores of Lake Superior) and near the entrance to the Boundary Waters. Here you will find great brewpubs, restaurants (be sure to check out the Angry Trout Cafe!), "World's Best Donuts" and more! Be sure to check-out classes offered at the North House Folk School where you can learn to bake bread, wax cast sterling silver rings, make a quilt, build a canoe from the ground up, or choose from many additional options that are offered !
